Technology Should Awaken, Not Flatten

There is a quiet tragedy playing out inside the tools we use every day.

They are not just smoothing out the edges. They are sanding down the center.

Think about how people write now, how they design, how they communicate, how they even think. The path of least resistance has become the path of most similarity. And because the path of least resistance is now computationally free, the center of gravity is collapsing toward a kind of synthetic sameness.

Technology should awaken creativity, not flatten identity. The good stuff always has. The printing press did not make everyone sound the same. The camera did not kill painting. Electricity did not homogenize music.

But when the tool writes for you, thinks for you, and packages your voice for you, the risk is different. The output is not just faster. It is narrower. Because the model does not know your specific grief, your specific obsessions, your specific way of noticing a room when you walk into it. The model knows averages. And averages are the enemy of everything worth making.

This does not mean the tools are bad. It means the default is dangerous. And most people will follow the default unless someone builds a better one.

The people who survive this era with their voices intact will be the ones who refuse to outsource the thing that makes their work alive. Not the formatting. Not the research. Not the admin. The thinking itself. The part that has fingerprints on it.

Use the tool. Do not become it.
