Friction Is the Tuition

Everyone wants a frictionless future until they realize friction was doing some of the teaching.

There is bad friction, obviously. Broken workflows. Pointless admin. Bureaucratic theater performed by people who should honestly be tried in public.

Kill that.

But some friction is not inefficiency. It is tuition.

The confusion you feel when you actually have to think instead of receive. The tension in a hard conversation you cannot automate your way around. The resistance you meet when your idea sounds brilliant in your head but flimsy the second it touches a real customer, a real market, or a real human life.

That is not the system failing.

That is reality charging you for understanding.

One of the big mistakes people are making with AI right now is assuming every hard edge in the process is waste. So they sand everything down. They remove the struggle, collapse the questions, auto-complete the judgment, and hand people a cleaner path to a thinner mind.

Convenient? Yes.

Expensive? Also yes.

Because the friction was often where the depth got built. It was where taste formed. Where pattern recognition started. Where humility entered the room and saved you from shipping something polished, fast, and embarrassingly disconnected from reality.

I am all for tools that collapse admin and remove drag. That is good design. But if your system removes every moment that might have made the human sharper, you did not create leverage. You created a prettier form of dependency.

The future does not belong to the people who avoid all friction.

It belongs to the people who can tell the difference between friction that wastes time and friction that builds someone worth trusting.

Some resistance is not in the way.

It is the way.
